Tripadvisor reviews to Looker Studio

Tripadvisor ranks a property inside its destination on recency, rating and volume together, and the profile page shows you one of the three. Reviewflowz syncs your Tripadvisor reviews into a Google Sheet in your own Drive every thirty minutes. Looker Studio reads that sheet natively, and the report shares with a link, so the general manager who will never hold a BI licence still opens the number on a phone.

Recency, rating and volume. The profile page shows one of them.

Where you sit in a destination moves on how recent your Tripadvisor reviews are, what they say and how many there are. The star average on the profile page is one of those three, and the slowest to move. By then the cause is two months old.

Score and Review Date are two of the columns the sync writes, so all three are arithmetic in Looker Studio. A rolling average over the last ninety days. A count of rows over the same window. The gap between today and the newest row, the one nobody tracks.

The quiet season catches operators out. Harbourgate Lock took 71 Tripadvisor reviews this summer against 94 the summer before, and its average went 4.4 to 4.1 over the same months. Volume fell first and further, and an average never shows that.

Looker Studio's date range control does the year on year comparison itself, so last summer beside this summer is a checkbox, not a second spreadsheet somebody keeps by hand.

A link, not a seat

Hospitality teams are spread across the properties they run. The general manager is on site, the regional is in a car, the owner is somewhere else and the asset manager works for a different company. None of them will be issued a BI licence to read one number a week.

A Looker Studio report shares the way any other Google file shares: viewer access by link or by email address, opens on a phone, no install and no Reviewflowz login anywhere in the chain. That is the actual reason a group picks Looker Studio over a desktop BI tool, and it is worth being plain about it.

Build the report the way the company is shaped: one page per property for the people who run it, one group page for the person who owns it, and a property control at the top so a manager lands on their own house.

Nobody who reads the report ever touches the spreadsheet. Reviewflowz writes the sheet, Looker Studio reads it, and the audience sees charts. Keep the file shared with the one person who owns the report and nobody else has anything to break.

Your guests review in their own language, and the report knows which

Language is a column on every row. In Tripadvisor data that is the closest thing you have to a source market, and for a hotel it is often the most useful dimension in the report. The guest who booked from Amsterdam and the guest who booked from Milan did not have the same stay.

Harbourgate Quay took 148 Tripadvisor reviews this summer at 4.4 overall, and 16 of them were written in Dutch, averaging 3.8. Sixteen rows is few enough to read in an afternoon and six tenths of a star is wide enough to be a real gap rather than noise.

Reviewflowz stores the review in the language the guest wrote it in. Tripadvisor machine-translates recent reviews into whatever language you ask for; Reviewflowz asks for the original text and keeps that instead, so the row carries what was actually written rather than a round trip through a translation engine.

That is what makes a rating by language chart worth building. The bars are honest, and the table underneath reads in the original, so whoever speaks the language can pick the five reviews that matter.

“De kamer keek uit op de laadplek en om zes uur begon het lossen. Drie nachten nauwelijks geslapen.”

The words, not just the score

The full review text arrives as a single column, so a Looker Studio table can carry the review itself under the charts instead of a link somebody has to open. A number says something changed. The paragraph says what to go and fix.

Reviewflowz tags each review against the tag list you defined, worked out from what the review means rather than which words it uses, so a German review about Frühstück lands on the same tag as an English one about breakfast. You get to pick the tags, because a hotel's categories are not a software vendor's categories.

Breakfast came up in 34 of the Quay's 148 summer reviews: 19 English, 8 German, 4 French, 3 Dutch. In Looker Studio that is one bar chart with a filter into the rows behind it, and the four Dutch reviews under the bar are the ones that explain the 3.8.

Title, Link and Reviewer Name are columns too. Make the link the cell's URL and the table stops being a report and starts being a work queue, one click from the review.

Das Frühstück war um halb neun schon leer geräumt und niemand hat es aufgefüllt.

Frühstück landed on Breakfast: tagged on what the review means, not the words it uses.

A sync, not an export somebody runs on Mondays

Reviewflowz creates the spreadsheet in your own Google Drive, writes the fixed header and keeps it current. New Tripadvisor reviews go in at the top, newest first. An edited review updates its own row rather than landing twice, keyed on a review ID in column A.

The sheet is written every thirty minutes and your Tripadvisor listings are re-checked about every two hours. Each listing's published average and review count are recorded once a day, so a rating history exists whether or not anyone watched.

Looker Studio reads a Google Sheet as a first-class data source. Point a report at the file, take the header row as the field names, and it is live on rows Reviewflowz had already written. Nothing waits on a person being at their desk.

Seed the sheet with your past Tripadvisor reviews once it is connected and the trend line starts full instead of in three months. That step is on the paid plans. The Google permission Reviewflowz asks for reaches the one file it created, nothing else in your Drive.

What is in the report, and what is not

The columns that fill on a Tripadvisor row: profile name, title, the full review text, score, link, review date, language, reviewer name, your tags and the review IDs. Those are the field list in Looker Studio, and the header never changes shape.

Trip type and date of stay are read off Tripadvisor and stored on the review inside Reviewflowz, but neither is a column in the sheet, so neither is a dimension you can chart. Subratings for rooms, cleanliness and service are not collected, and management responses are captured but are not a sheet column.

Looker Studio has no OData connector, so the Reviewflowz OData feed is not a way into it and no page here will pretend otherwise. If part of your group is in Power BI, Tableau, Qlik or Excel, that feed is there on Premium behind a revocable token, and it carries the reply text and the daily rating history.

The Review API is the third road, also on Premium, for a team that wants to land Tripadvisor reviews in a warehouse and point Looker Studio at that. Most operators do not need it: the sheet is the shortest path to a chart somebody opens.

Does Reviewflowz have a Looker Studio connector?

No, and Looker Studio has no OData connector either, so we will not sell you one. The path is the Google Sheets sync: Reviewflowz writes your Tripadvisor reviews into a spreadsheet in your own Drive every thirty minutes, and Looker Studio reads a Google Sheet as a first-class data source. It is a live sync rather than an export, and both ends are Google.

Which Tripadvisor fields land in Looker Studio?

Profile name, review title, the full review text, score, link, review date, language, reviewer name, your tags, and both review IDs. The header is fixed at 28 columns and carries some that only other platforms fill, such as pros and cons and reviewer company; those stay empty on a Tripadvisor row. Trip type, date of stay, subratings and your management responses are not columns in the sheet.

Is this a one-off export or a live sync?

A live sync. Reviewflowz creates the spreadsheet in your Google Drive and writes it every thirty minutes: new Tripadvisor reviews are inserted at the top, newest first, and an edited review updates its own row rather than landing again. Your listings themselves are re-checked about every two hours. Nobody re-runs anything.

Does the first sync include our Tripadvisor history?

Yes, on a paid plan. Once the sync is on, Reviewflowz offers to seed the spreadsheet with your past Tripadvisor reviews, and keeps it current from there, so a report has a baseline on day one. On the free trial that seed is locked and a trial sheet fills from new reviews only.

How do I handle several properties?

Put every listing on one sync and the sheet carries the whole group, with the property named on each row, which is what the property filter in Looker Studio reads. You can also point a sync at a location and it picks up every listing there. If you want a narrower report, a second sync gets its own spreadsheet, and each sync can be restricted by score, at or below two stars for example, and to reviews that have text.

Do the reviews arrive in English or in the guest's language?

In the guest's language. Tripadvisor machine-translates recent reviews into whatever language is requested; Reviewflowz asks for the original and stores that, then tags the row with the language it was written in. So a chart of rating by language is built on what guests actually wrote.

Can Reviewflowz see the rest of my Google Drive?

No. The Google permission it asks for covers files it created itself, which is the one spreadsheet. It cannot list, read or change anything else in your Drive.

Do I need a demo to get started?

No. You add your Tripadvisor listing, pick Google Sheets as the destination and connect your Google account yourself, in under five minutes. 14 day free trial, no credit card.
